Teresa Donnelly elected as Treasurer
Convocation elected Teresa Donnelly as the 68th Treasurer of the Law Society of Ontario. Treasurer Donnelly was elected as a bencher in 2015 and 2019. She has served as Chair of the Audit and Finance Committee, Chair of the Human Rights Monitoring Group (Equity) and Chair of the Program Review Task Force. She also served on numerous other Law Society committees, task forces and working groups. She is on the faculty of the National Criminal Law Program, Federation of Law Societies of Canada.
New bencher elected
Michael B. LeSage of Hamilton was elected as bencher to fill the vacancy created by the election of Teresa Donnelly as Treasurer.
Family Legal Services Provider: Call for Comment launched
The Law Society’s Access to Justice Committee invites lawyers, paralegals, legal organizations and members of the public to provide comments on a proposed Family Legal Services Provider (FLSP) Licensing model.
All input received will be of assistance in refining the model. In addition to the Call for Comment, the LSO will convene focus groups and gather additional information to address the issues outlined within the Consultation Paper. Comments may be submitted until Nov. 30, 2020. Read more.
Recommendations for Strategic Change adopted
Convocation approved eight proposals for strategic change intended to:
- Reduce the regulatory burdens on licensees
- Modernize and streamline processes
- Achieve savings and internal efficiencies.
The changes are based on proposals made by CEO Diana Miles and are informed by the deliberations of the Proportionate Regulation and Program Review Task Forces. Details on the changes are available in the
Priority Planning Committee report.
