Biographical Sketch
Claude Renwick Thomson, a Toronto-based lawyer, was born on 30 September 1933. He attended Osgoode Hall Law School, and was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1958 and to the Bar of the Island of St. Helena in 1963. He was appointed a Queen's Counsel in 1976. Much of Thomson's legal career was spent as a senior litigator and partner with law firm Fasken Martineau with a focus on arbitration, mediation and general litigation. Later in life, he worked as an international mediator and chartered arbitrator. In addition to this work, Thomson served as president of the Canadian and International Bar Associations, a director and vice-president of The Advocates' Society and a public governor of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants. He was given an honorary Doctor of Laws (LLD) degree by the Law Society of Upper Canada in 2005. Thomson died on 24 November 2010.
