Biographical Sketch
Francis William Denton was born on September 24th, 1896, to Toronto lawyer Francis Brown Denton. He was admitted to Osgoode Hall Law School in 1914, and was called to the Bar of Ontario on October 1st, 1919. Denton practiced law in Toronto, until his appointment as a Junior Judge of the County of York in 1936. He served on the bench until his retirement in 1971. Denton served as a member of the Board of Commissioners of Police for the City of Toronto, as a trustee for the Toronto Board of Education and the Toronto General Hospital, and served as Vice-President of the Friends of Italy Society. In his private life, Denton was a painter and a member of the Arts and Letters Club in Toronto. Frank Denton died on November 21st, 1987.

Fonds consists of administrative files and miscellaneous legal documents maintained by the law office of Toronto lawyer Frank Denton. Records in the fonds largely document his personal life, his activities as a lawyer and as a member of the Board of Police Commissioners in Toronto. The miscellaneous legal documents included in the fonds were originally maintained by Francis Brown Denton, the father of Frank Denton. The fonds does not include records documenting Denton's time on the bench.

Scope and Content
Series consists of administrative files maintained by the law office of Frank Denton. Records in the series document the personal life of Denton, including his income and investments, the activities of the Board of Commissioners of the Toronto Police Department for the years 1934 to 1936, property purchases by Denton which were transferred to the Board of Trustees of the Toronto General Hospital, and his activities as a member of the Liberal party. Included in the series are correspondence, minutes and agendas, reports, lists, cards, newspaper clippings, insurance policies, memoranda, income tax returns, transcripts, printed leaflets, certificates, deeds, brochures, and other textual material. Three photographs are also included.

Scope and Content
Series consists of legal documents originally maintained by Francis Brown Denton (d. 1920), the father of Frank Denton. The documents would have been transferred to Frank Denton when he took over his father's law practice. Many of the documents relate to Lieutenant Colonel Robert Mutter of the Royal Canadian Rifles, who married a daughter of the Hon. John Hillyard Cameron.
