Biographical Sketch
Frank Ford was born on March 4th, 1873, in Toronto to James Ford and Catherine Poole. He married Nora Elizabeth Sampson (d. 1920) in 1899, and later married Jane Duff in 1923.
Ford earned Bachelor and Doctor of Civil Law degrees from the University of Toronto. He was admitted to Osgoode Hall Law School in 1890, and was called to the Bar in 1895. Ford was Private Secretary to D'Alton McCarthy (1893 to 1897) and was partner with the firm of Denton, Dods and Ford (1897 to 1898). He served as Private Secretary to A.S. Hardy, Ontario Premier, and then to J.M. Gibson, Attorney General of Ontario. Ford served as Solicitor to the Treasury from 1900 to 1904.
Ford moved to western Canada in 1906. He was admitted to the Bar of the Northwest Territories, and later served as Deputy Attorney General of Saskatchewan. In 1910, he moved to Edmonton, Alberta, where he joined the firm of Emery, Newell, Ford, Bolton and Mount. Ford was appointed a Justice in the Supreme Court of Alberta (Trial Division) in 1926, and to the Supreme Court of Alberta (Appellate Division) in 1936. He was appointed a King's Counsel in Saskatchewan (1907), Ontario (1910), and Alberta (1913). Ford served as the Chancellor of the University of Alberta from 1941 to 1946. He retired in 1954. Ford died in Edmonton on March 21st, 1965.
