Dates to Remember for Incoming 2020-21 Lawyer Candidates

Candidates are required to also access their Law Society online account for further deadlines, notices and requirements pertaining to their status in the Licensing Process.

Deadlines are calculated in BUSINESS days, not calendar days.

 

Application and Transcripts

  • Licensing Term
    2020-21 Licensing Year May 1, 2020 – April 30, 2021.

    Candidates who enroll in the 2020-21 Lawyer Licensing Process and/or register to begin any part of the Licensing Process in the 2020-21 cycle will be considered a 2020-21 candidate.
     
    2020-21 Licensing Term  May 1, 2020 – April 30, 2023.

    All candidates are given up to three licensing years to complete the Lawyer Licensing Process requirements.
  • Application Deadlines
    Online application launch October 2019
    Application (online and paper copy) due date December 2, 2019
    Application fee due date December 2, 2019
  • Transcript Deadlines
    Transcript due date August 7, 2020*

    *For third year law students writing the June 2020 sitting as a first attempt.
     All other candidates must have their institution submit a final official transcript/NCA certificate no later than 30 BUSINESS days prior to examination date, or if articling, prior to commencing articles; or by the LPP registration deadline.

  • Accommodations
    Examination  Accommodation request due date New applicants to the Licensing Process must submit accommodation request forms and supporting documentation by the licensing process application deadline. Candidates seeking a revision to an existing, Law Society-approved accommodation plan or requesting an accommodation based on a new or emerging condition/ground must make a request prior to the 30 business day deadline for the licensing examination.   • Examination Dates
    Please refer to the Licensing and Examination Dates, Times and Locations for more information.
  • Examination Registration Deadlines
    To be fully registered for a licensing exam, the following conditions must be met:
    • Candidates must be fully enrolled in the Licensing Process well in advance of the exam registration deadline in order to have access to the invoices for the exams and study materials.
    • Candidates must make payment for the exams and study materials no later than 30 business days prior to the exam date.
    • Candidates must have their institutions (or the NCA) submit a final official transcript/NCA certificate to the Licensing Process office no later than 30 business days prior to their first exam date.

    Candidates writing the June 2020 exams and/or candidates who want early access to study materials

    (Examination and Study Material fees are due by this date for those writing in June and/or those who wish to pick up materials in person during the in-person distribution period. All other examination fees are due in full prior to the 30 business day deadline for each examination.)
  • Examination Deferral Deadlines
    To defer an exam to a future sitting, candidates must submit a Request for Change or Deferment Form to the Licensing and Accreditation Department (by email) no later than 10 business days prior to their current exam date.

  • Study Materials - Release Dates
    Candidates who wish to pick up study materials during the in-person distribution period must make payment for the materials. All candidates must make payment no later than 30 business days prior to the exam date.  Please note that candidates will not have online access to the study materials until fees have been paid.

    Exam results will be released approximately 6-8 weeks after the examination date.
