Join Us at Welcome to the Professions

On December 9 and 10 at 5:30 p.m. the Law Society will be hosting a virtual Welcome to the Professions Celebration. This event is for recently licensed lawyers and paralegals, their families, friends, colleagues and other well-wishers. The program will be the same on both days.

I will be making remarks as part of the program and will be joined by Chief Justice Strathy and Justice Rouleau who will bring congratulatory remarks. We will begin the event with an Indigenous ceremony by Elder Myeengun Henry of the Chippewa of the Thames First Nation.

Our most recently licensed lawyers and paralegals are part of a unique and historic cohort. They have had to pivot their studies, placements and articling and quickly adapt to technological changes.

The resilience they have demonstrated will serve them and the public well. The legal sector and justice system have undergone unprecedented change in 2020 and our new licensees were there.

History has demonstrated time and time again, that challenging times can bring new learnings and insights, and sometimes opportunities that may not otherwise have presented themselves.

The newest members of the Law Society have a significant role to play in motivating and facilitating the transformational shift that is upon the legal community — now in this moment and throughout their careers.

It is clear, now more than ever, that as the justice system increasingly moves online, that modernization, innovation and flexibility are critical components of moving the legal professions forward in our goal to further access to justice for those we serve.

I hope you will join us on December 9 and December 10. Our newest paralegal and lawyer’s accomplishments are well worth celebrating, as are the contributions of all those who have supported them on their journey; family, friends, colleagues, teachers and mentors, to name a few.

In a world that is isolating, we need to come together.

Please register in advance for the date you wish to attend: December 9 or December 10

We hope that you will join us. If you cannot attend on December 9 or 10, you can watch the celebration on-demand via our YouTube Channel beginning on December 11.
