Affiliations

Purpose

Part IV of By-Law 7 allows lawyers and licensed paralegals to join with an affiliated entity in the delivery or promotion and delivery of the services of the licensee and the services of the affiliated entity.

Who can form an Affiliation

All licensees who wish to form an affiliation with a non-licensee do so. Licensees must comply with Part IV of By-Law 7.

On February 25, 2021, Convocation approved amendments to By-Law 7, including removing the requirement to notify the Law Society before entering into an Affiliation and to file annual reports in respect of an Affiliation. As a result, licensees entering into an Affiliation are not required to provide notice to the Law Society or submit annual reports for an Affiliation. However, please be aware that the rules and requirements concerning Affiliations remain in effect and licensees are responsible for ensuring they practise in compliance with the By-Law and all other applicable rules and requirements.
