January 31, 2013

Amnesty International Canada and Lawyers' Rights Watch Canada will hold a public information meeting on February 15, 2013 at the Law Society, focusing on human rights in Sri Lanka.

Dr. Paikiasothy Saravanamuttu, Executive Director of the Centre for Policy Alternatives in Sri Lanka, will highlight the debates in Sri Lanka concerning the rule of law in that country, and whether the government even heeded the Sri Lankan constitution with its recent impeachment of the Chief Justice.

Canadian MPs will discuss what Canadian political parties believe should happen to respect human rights and also the rule of law in Sri Lanka.

The discussion will be moderated by Sharryn Aiken, Associate Dean (Graduate Studies and Research) and Associate Professor, Faculty of Law, Queen's University
