Law Society’s governing body approves 2019 budget

October 25, 2018
TORONTO, ON — The Law Society’s governing body today approved modest increases to the annual fees that lawyers and paralegals will pay to the Law Society in 2019. Lawyers will pay an additional of $18, resulting in an overall, annual fee of $2,201, while paralegals will pay an additional $15, for a total of $1,115.
“I am pleased that we are able to keep fee increases modest, while ensuring operational sustainability and ongoing support of the Law Society’s core functions and the priorities of Convocation,” says Law Society Chief Executive Officer Diana Miles.
The budget includes support for continued implementation of recommendations from the Indigenous Review Panel and the Indigenous Framework, continued support for the Law Society’s public awareness campaign, improvements to the Practice Management Helpline —including streamlined telephone access and broadened scope of service, and development of a new licence for the provision of some family law legal services.
“The 2019 budget will ensure that we maintain strong support for our core responsibilities in regulating the legal professions in the public interest,” says Law Society Treasurer Malcolm Mercer.
Licensees can enroll in the Law Society’s Annual Pre-Authorized Payment Plan which will provide a $50 annual fee discount fee, pro-rated by fee category.
The 2019 budget report is available online.
