Obtain a Status Letter
A Status Letter is a basic document outlining a licensee’s current status and whether they are entitled to practise law or provide legal services in Ontario. A Status Letter may be ordered by a licensee or by a third party. The cost for a Status Letter is $25.00 (plus taxes). The cost of an additional copy is $5.00 (plus taxes). It may take up to five business days to complete a Status Letter.
A Status Letter may be ordered by a licensee through the Law Society Portal. A third party may order a status letter through the Law Society Store. If you have any questions, please contact the Membership Services department at records@lso.ca.
