Ontario hosted its fifth Access to Justice Week from October 26 to 30, 2020. A series of awareness-building programs, held virtually, focused on the impacts of COVID-19 on legal professions, the justice sector, public legal education, mental health, as well as Indigenous and language rights. In coordination with the Law Society of Ontario, three programs were organized in partnership with access to justice coordinators in Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan, in addition to local programming.
Highlights from the week include:
- Letters of support from The Honourable Doug Downey, Attorney General of Ontario, The Honourable George Strathy, Chief Justice of Ontario, The Honourable Geoffrey Morawetz, Chief Justice of the Superior Court of Justice and The Honourable Lise Maisonneuve, Chief Justice of the Ontario Court of Justice.
- Over 1,500 participants in the session in person and by webcast
- Over 60 speakers at 10 programs
- A national news release generated 7,900,219 media impressions
- Nearly 95,000 social media impressions
